hi im a newby on here desperate for help... i purchased a cat in november supposed to be a ragdoll x persian 11wk old very cute and cuddly. i had researched the ragdoll and maincoon as i was looking for an indoor lapcat to keep me company. as hes got bigger he started to show a bengal pattern on his fur so i researched a bengal and he has the temprement of a bengal, hes very viscious my arms and hands are tore to bits where hes pounced and dug teeth and claws in and scratched. hes started pouncing and biting my face aswell as other family memebers. he has lots of toys a massive scratch tree post gets plenty of attention doesnt get left alone for long time... im at my witts end and dont really want to get rid of him but hes gonna end up taking somebodys eye out please help

Hello there. I am also quite new on forum and new with bengals but had cats for last thirty years. There are so many reasons why your cat may be acting like this. My suggestion, among othe things would be to watch as many of the Jackson galaxy cats from hell episodes and see if there are any cats there which you could match to your experiences and the problems your cat has. I got so much from watching Jackson Galaxy as he deals with so many cats with differing problems. I would also seek the advice of a behaviourist who specialises in Bengal cats. Good luck and hope your kitty calms down. You could also try feliway diffusers and Zylkene which is a natural product which calms kitty. It could be such a simple reason causing the behaviour, it could be fear or pain in which case a vet visit is always first thing to do to rule that out illness. There are so many experienced people on this forum that will be able to suggest things. Best wishes.

Anyway, there is no way on this earth that somebody can mistake a Bengal for a Ragdoll or Persian. That is not possible. So without even seeing your cat, I can tell you that your cat is certainly not a bengal.

That said, it really sounds to me like play aggression. Honestly, a pile of toys lying on the floor is not going to cut it for a cat. Interactive play is the thing. What they want is to simulate that hunting behavior, and if you are not providing a way for him to do that in an appropriate way, then he's going to make up his own games which more than likely are going to be inappropriate. Get a dabird or Neko fly (you can google those) and then play with him with those every day. Tire him out. Then I think you will see much more of the cuddly lapcat behavior, plus you will develop a better bond with your cat.

Ragdolls and Maine Coons usually have a sweet disposition. All cats need interactive play time. My bengal won't even touch toys that a human is not at the other end. Your kitty is showing that he's using you as prey instead of the toys. You're simply going to have to spend more time engaging him in toys and wearing him out. Remember your baby is a kitten and they are highly active. You'll need to nip the biting of you or this behavior will continue well into adulthood. Trust me when I say your kitten is behaving normally. I've had kittens and usually the arm is full of bites and scratches. It's up to you to continue socializing your cat once he leaves his mother. You have got to put the time in. Just so you know ... my bengal has the sweetest temperament in the world. He has never bitten or scratched me in anger. Sometimes his claw will catch me while we are playing, but I have had a lot of cats in my lifetime and this one is by far the sweetest I've ever seen.

Please do not give up on your kitty! Take the time to work with him. He truly doesn't know any better at this point.

I'm glad you came to the conclusion that because you cat is "viscous" it has a bengal temperament. Bengals are NOT aggressive, ALL CATS can be aggressive if they are not taken care of properly. Play with your kitten that's what they do best!
