Hi Everyone

We brought our Bengal boy, Rocky, home from the breeder on Sunday. He's a kitten and is absolutely adorable (as they all are!). He's starting coming out from hiding and is playing, using the litter tray, eating well, but he is making a very low, sad meow noise as he mooches around, as if he is looking for his family. Could this be the case and will it get better? I know Bengals are vocal, but the noise he is making sounds very pained.

Don't worry too much about the noises he is making - it may just be that is his meow - Bengals have a wide vocal range as you will soon find out. But one of mine always sounds sad, and the other just sounds annoyed! And when Hendrix can't find you, you'd think someone was strangling him with the yowl he will let out so you can call out to him and tell him where you are.

I hope he is settling in well, it's very early days but you will find plenty of help and support on this forum.

My bengal had that same cry when he was running around investigating his first time in our home. Have no fear -- your bengal will have multiple cries. You'll get used to knowing what cry means what. Congratulations on your new arrival.

They make lots of sound. I was worried about Jarvis because he makes a plaintive sounding meow. But that's his "I don't know what this is" sound. He makes a different one when its time for food. Sometimes he makes noise when he is exploring alone and calls out for his sister. I think it's more of how he expresses himself like he's voicing an opinion.
