I have been on several sites looking for information on Bengal Mixes, and most of the posts are quite rude in regards to bengal mixes. So forgive me for being a little apprehensive here.
We visited the local shelter over the weekend, not even looking really for another kitty, when on the way out we saw in the "recovery" area a precious, ever so precious, kitty labeled a "Bengal mix". We have been talking to several rescue groups for bengals and have not found a "fit" for us or the kitty.
So anyhow we were on the way out and saw this little guy in the corner. He was labeled a "bengal mix" by the vet and we questioned how they came to that conclusion while we held him. After we decided to adopt him, we were told he literally had just days left as he had already been there over a month and was in the "recovery" area from an illness, and although he was healthy, that room was almost full and they'd start euthanizing the ones who had been in the shelter the longest. I felt better about caving and getting kitty number 3.

After another vet check and neuter, he was ready to go home yesterday. He is a little over 5 months and he weighs 5.5 lbs. He is grey with spots, some are dual color(gold) if you look, and long back legs. He has a white belly and white paws and gold "highlights" along his belly, in a few of his spots and along his head. He could just be a spotted tabby, but the vet insisted he was a Bengal mix due to appearance, body type and personality. There was another older kitty in the shelter who looked very similar and was listed the same. He was HUGE.
Anyhow, he is a sweetie and already has stolen our hearts.
So here we are. Not worried about pedigree or any of that, I just want to be sure if he is indeed a bengal mix we fully understand any needs he may have that our others do not.

Congratulations on your new arrival! It's really difficult to tell from that one picture. Feel free to post more pictures from different angles. What stands out are the rosettes. I don't know if regular tabbies have them. Bengals do not have light colored paws. I don't see any bengal characteristics on the tail either. Many vets aren't experts in determining the breed of a cat. Regardless, your little guy is quite handsome! And what really matters is that you love him and provide him with a wonderful home.

You really need to post much better photos if you want anyone to be able comment on the physical characteristics of your cat; but from what I can see I wouldn't think bengal cross. I've met one bengal cross, and it was very very obvious it had bengal in it. But as Brian said, who knows really, you can never know for sure either way. Your cat will have the same needs whether it has bengal in it or not, so it doesn't really matter.

Thank you for rescuing him! I for one would love to see some more pictures of him.

My husband and I have had cats for years but just got our first Bengal in February and while all cats have the same basic needs I can tell you that our Bengal is a lot more active and more "demanding" than our other cats. He's also a heck of a lot more entertaining . There aren't many things he's afraid of and he is very outgoing. When people come over he comes out to see what's going on and say hi. He's not as vocal as I expected for a Bengal but that may come with age too (he just turned 1).

I cant get the fella to stand still long enough for a photo! We know he isn't full bengal, but I can honestly say after all of the other cats I've had over the years this fella is a very different kitty! I've never had a more demanding kitty (even the siamese I had years ago). I'll have to see if my hubby can get another few photos of him.
Ares spends a lot of time playing in the toilet or the tub and has already jumped into the bath with me once! He makes these weird meow-chirps that remind me of a spanish speaker rolling their "r's" but in a meow. He has already been a delight and its just been a week!

You cant seem to capture in a photo the dual colors in the rosettes. Although most of the spots seem to be one color, they actually have a light golden brown outline that you can see best when the light hits it. Its the same golden brown that is along his neck and belly.

Knowing for sure if he is a mix or not is more to satisfy our curiosity. He was a seized kitty from the neighboring county. We were lead to believe he was not a stray, but rather one that was taken from a home perhaps due to neglect or abandonment.

Our regular vet will get to meet him for his well kitty check here in a week or so. She only sees cats and does see bengals regularly. I'll get her to chime in too. We want to be sure we give the best home to our new kitty.

I actually thought this was my cat from the picture haha! He looks exactly the same and mine is half bengal, we saw him with his full bengal mother so I would say yours is too! Obviously without seeing parents it's hard to know for sure but with mix breeds you never know which parent they will look more like :-)
