Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself and the new addition to our family. He will arrive mid July and is currently four weeks old. His name is Bo Jangles. We have always wanted a Bengal cat but the time has never been right. We have two German Shepherds one of which is 13 so have been dealing with some of her health issues. She seems fine now so are going for it! We are very excited and nervous at the same time but I am sure it will be a lot of fun! It has been a while since we have had a cat so I am researching all things healthy for him including litter etc. I will review past posts to see what information I can gather. We make our own raw food for our dogs and will do the same for our new addition. We meet the breeder and him this weekend.

Welcome, Sherri, from another Sherry! You will find a wealth of information on the care of bengals. We all seem to have at least one. Hopefully, Bo Jangles will get along well with the large dogs. However, your kitty is only currently four weeks old and the breeder is letting you have him in mid July, which would make him only 8 weeks old? Everyone here would recommend your baby stay with his mommy until at least 12 weeks. I know that would make it until mid-August, but a great breeder would agree. I hope you'll discuss this with the breeder. Kittens learn a ton of social skills from their mom between 8 and 12 weeks which could avoid behavior problems in the future.

Sounds good to me. We visited with him today and he is actually just over 5 weeks. The breeder has no problem keeping him until he is 12 weeks old which is fine by us. They have a dog also which will certainly help when we introduce him to our two. Thank you for your advice.

I'm delighted to hear your breeder will keep him until he's 12 weeks old. Gives you a little more time to prepare! It's great the breeder has a dog as it should make it a little easier introducing him to your dogs. I know your excitement is running wild right now, but the time will fly and he'll be with you in no time.

Hi Sherry, I have asked her to keep him until he is 13 to 14 weeks old. After reading just about everything I can on providing stability and a good start for him, it makes the most sense and she is very happy to do so. Lots of prep to do for sure. We have a lot of things for him already given we were going to get one last year but life happened and the timing was never good. No turning back now! Thanks again for responding. I will probably have a lot of questions as we go but will definitely check the posts to see what information I can gather. Glad this forum exists!

Your pictures need to be posted online somewhere -- usually with Image Shack -- at least that's where mine are. They tie you a link of the picture to post. There's no way to upload an attachment to your message here. Check in the "Gallery" topic and the instructions are in there.
