Hello there!!!
Just wanted to say hi, and say what a delight Bengals are! Nearly a month ago, we rehomed a 5 year old Bengal male. Bit of a long story, but we met him a year ago, when he knocked on our old, disused catflap on Halloween. Made us jump at 1am as we were watching a spooky movie. Anyway, we fed him (had catfood in for hedgehog) had a cuddle on the sofa, then a snooze (cat, not us) and off he went, happy.
The next day he came back. Didn't feed this time, as didn't want to encourage him. Obviously belonged to someone. But he was there again, the day after, just sitting in the garden, for hours. So we took him to the vet, chip was read, and he was picked up by its previous but one owner, who lived 200 miles away. Seemed that she'd given him away, but when the new owners moved, he escaped twice, one of those times walking back to where he lived, around 17 miles, and that's where we met him.
Fast forward a year, and owner didn't want him again, too aggressive towards her other cats, and vocal, he wanted out, he'd had a taste for freedom! So she asked if we'd take him on. Now we have a Bengal!
I've been enjoying how loving they are, so cuddly, and of course, softer than the softest teddy in the toy shop! Quite smart too, esp trying to get their own way, ha ha.
We had trouble for the first week of not being allowed out while getting used to us, sounds and smells - 9 hours crying, and being on a Bengal forum, you know what that's like. I howled myself a couple of times, and one of the days went for a 3 hour drive!! So I got a harness, thinking he'd just give it the look of disdain like everything else. But no! We went walking for the following week on the harness, as good as gold. No more crying indoors either, stopped. Towards the end of the second week, he was getting funny over the harness, novelty had run off, so we let him out in the garden, sticking with him fearing the worst. But he's been brilliant! Loves his garden (and the neighbours) and doesnt venture far away without us. However, he does like being walked further with me, and every morning we go exploring together, off the harness, and he just loves it. It seems that even though he's been wanting to go out so long, he's actually a bit of a wuss and likes the company of a human
Only worry about him is his aggressiveness towards other cats. Esp next doors cat, who now cowers inside and wont come out. I know that they'll probably sort it out, one day, but any idea's how to help be appreciated.
But anyway, we love having him. Well, I do, my partners still getting used to having to share the bed at night. Its a long time since I've owned a cat, but I like the slight differences in Bengals.. very interesting cats. I couldn't have wished for a nicer friend.
I hope you don't mind me writing all this, but I'd read a few tips on here, and wanted to say hi, and thanks for those!
