I have the biggest pleasure to share my life with Jasmin the 10 year old golden spotted bengal whom my husband and I inherited from his grandmother in Scotland when she sadly passed away.

My family has previously had siamese and so I am used to the ways and means of an oriental breed of cat, but this was new territory to my husband who was brought up with dogs; in particular bullmastiffs, and so he had rather a culture shock in the first few months of sharing our life with the 'spotty mog' (as she's affectionately known).

We also have 3 jack russells, a large pond full of koi, a few chickens and a whole host of cavies (guinea pigs) which are my own guilty pastime - I breed and show them. Luckily for Jasmin our garden is very large and to her resembles the 'Serangeti' game reserve with the addition of some fabulously tall trees which she scales like the proverbial 'rat up a drain pipe' when the mood takes her....I love watching that moment when she hangs on at the top of her decent for that split second of "Uh-oh" before she leaps off backwards, paws outstretched.

The spotted one totally rules the roost over the dogs....and the humans, to be fair and she is the most prolific hunter I have ever seen! She shouts loudly at every one, everything and at any time she sees fit - the funniest of all noises are the 3am "I'm all alone in the house and nobody loves me" wail.....she is also a thief; no spoons, pens or small objects from any work surface are safe.


We have Jasmin's papers somewhere, as she was a girl that was destined to be a breeding queen; apparently she didnt take a liking to the boys presented so she was spayed and rehomed with my husbands gran where she had a life of luxury - unfortunately she was also completely spoilt rotten and fed on the best cuts of cooked meat from Marks and Spencers. Consequently when she came to live with us she was very overweight (with tummy flaps) and a facial expression like you'd just waved something smelly (and not in a good way) under her nose when offered any mere feline food. The cattery we collected her from where she was being boardered temporarily until the funeral told us "she likes tuna in spring water and james Wellbeloved premium range cat biscuits, or at a push Eukanuba" - as we drove away my husband replied "she'll like 'katkins' or lump it in our house".......................needless to say she didnt, and after many more looks of disgust we compromised on whiskas supermeat ( still not the chunks or cuts in gravy though, after all these years) that is a step too far.......I have to say we were very concerned at first about letting her out, for fear that she would be stolen etc.....................now I have witnessed her many times over the years beating seven bells out of other local moggies and stalking our chickens and taking delight in making them running around like something headless and chasing our dogs until they dive for cover under the sofa I would have to say I would rather be fearful for the thief.........I am convinced that should they chance their arm and kidnap our moggy marauder they would soon bring her back.


I have this very vague ambition to one day have some breeding stock as I would just love to develop and show my own line of bengals. In the meantime I am badgering my husband to consider taking on another spotty mog - I have seen quite a few adverts for rehoming and the sale of ex breeding stock but many who need rehoming are not suitable to live with others, dogs and kids and Im afraid we have all of those in our house so I figure it may take some time to find the right spotty mog to make our life even more interesting.

Thanks, I most certainly try with the pictures, Im not good at the technical stuff so it may take me some time to work out how to upload them!

Spotty mog has spent all day on my bed asleep after being out at 5am chewing the head off a rat she caught in next doors passageway - dont know why I bother with the whiskas supermeat, and I swear she can read the label on the packet of pills that I get out from the cupboard under the sink..................the dreaded worming tablets (must locate the chain link mesh gloves that reach up to my armpits and dig out the goggles for the 'easy administration' feature mentioned on the flip side of the packet.....huh)

spotty mog won the contest.................I made my husband clear up the carcass as it was his fault the girls were let loose in the first place.

Why does she have to sit there with such a smug grin on her chops?
