Progress report on Yuki
Day one:
Spike & Loula pretty much ignored Yuki, they watched him for a while and then just laid down and couldn't care less, Yuki never really showed much interest in them either and was happy to wonder about doing his own thing.
Toshi was a different story, very aggressive toward him, near constant growling, spitting, swiping at him. Seeking him out and attacking. So much so that I moved Yuki back into the bedroom for his own safety.
Yuki was very affectionate, loves to be petted, sits on my lap purring and kneading away with his front paws. He is quite bold, although not nearly as much as Toshi was when first arrived, but just a little bit nervous of any sudden movement or noise.
Day 2:
Left the bedroom door open, but Yuki did not venture out of his own accord. He mostly slept during the day, but came for a fuss whenever I went in to him. I brought him into the room while Toshi was sleeping in the playground and he explored and played vigorously with wand toy (completely destroyed it in 2 minutes)
Loula started to show interest in him and made a few small attempts at play, Yuki did not engage but did not react negatively either. In the early evening Spike & Loula were laid on the couch so I did what you are not supposed to do and put Yuki on the couch with them, Yuki had a good sniff of Loula and Loula checked him out too. He then clambered past Spike (Yuki is still very clumsy) and to my surprise Spike did not hiss at him and just watched him go by.
Later on in comes Toshi, growling, spitting, swiping starts immediately he sees Yuki. Yuki is sat on the couch and Toshi launches an attack from behind, but Yuki spins round and swipes Toshi who in the panic falls off the couch - This comes as a bit of a shock to me and I think even more so to Toshi, Yuki is half his size!
The nastiness continues so I take Yuki back to the bedroom and watch Brother Bear on the laptop, Yuki positions himself between me and laptop and sits there watching it for about 20 minutes LOL
Day 3:
Toshi wakes me up scratching the door so I open the bedroom door, he runs in straight at Yuki and starts again, Yuki does not run but turns and faces him and spits back.
Rest of the day continues in the same vein. In an attempt to get them to accept each other I get Da-Bird out but it just ends up making things worse as they both go for it and end up at each other instead.
Early evening and there is no sign of improvement, in fact it looks like it is getting worse, Toshi is looking particularly nasty toward Yuki and now Yuki is ears back and not happy about it. I decide to timeout Toshi in his carrier when he has a go at Yuki. Toshi gets 3 timeouts and storms off to the bedroom and falls asleep on the bed.
1-30AM and I am sat watching a movie and I hear a lot of commotion from behind the couch, a little bit of growling but mostly scratching and tapping noises. I get up to investigate and Yuki is under the couch and Toshi is trying to get to him so I chase Toshi out from behind the couch and lift the recliner so I can see Yuki under the front of the couch.
Yuki sticks his head out just as Toshi comes back into the room, as Toshi passes Yuki comes out and chases him round the back again, then Yuki comes running back out through the front pannel of the couch where Toshi cant get (when the recliner is operated it makes the gap at the back too small for Toshi to get through. Toshi comes running round the side of the couch and jumps on the computer chair.
Yuki goes under the chair and they have a swipe each others paws thing going and then both run off behind the couch again.
Meanwhile I am sat on the floor mouth open in complete disbelief that they are actually playing!
Twice Toshi attacked Yuki and was clearly NOT playing, but Yuki small though he is turned on him and attacked back and actually turned the tables on him completely, Toshi ran to the safety of the top of the computer chair back and had this look of complete shock on his face as if to say "Why doesn't he run when I attack him"
I am absolutely over the moon, I thought that those two were never going to be friends and it all changed in the blink of an eye, lets just hope it continues to improve
